Robe Holiday Packages - Kangaroo Island Bushfire Disaster Relief

In response to the recent bushfires across our state, our community have indicated they would like to support those affected on Kangaroo Island.

Robe and Kangaroo Island share many similarities:
• Small rural community
• Heavy economic reliance on primary production and tourism
• Small, stand alone Council
• Beautiful coastline and natural heritage
• Limited ratepayer base from which to derive money for replacing damaged infrastructure
• A strong, resilient community.

We can’t imagine how it must feel to see so much of what you love decimated by fire but we can show our compassion in a way that is useful to their community.

The fires have damaged much of their infrastructure which combined with their personal losses, will make their road to recovery a long one.

We are hoping to provide the KI community with 90 'Holiday Packages' to Robe which will be hand delivered to the Mayor of Kangaroo Island to distribute through their community as needed.

Each package will contain 3 night’s accommodation, a meal voucher to the value of $50, a coffee voucher and a voucher for a bottle of wine.
Community members can buy a voucher and give it to Nat at the Council office as she is collating the packages for the community. Or if you, your family or your business can provide any of the items, please give your vouchers to Nat.

I plan on visiting KI in February as a personal holiday and meeting with the Mayor to hand over a cheque for the donation from the Robe Community, handing over the holiday packages and doing a presentation with drone footage of the Boat Show and concert.

It has been amazing to see this community activate it’s networks to get all of this happening in such a small time frame. Our community strength is plain to see and I can’t tell you how proud I feel to be the Mayor of this area.

We will keep everyone up to date via Facebook but feel free to ring me, 0427357243 if you would like to chat about anything regarding the fundraisers.

Kind Regards
Mayor Alison Nunan
