Driving Change: Robe Community Asked to Weigh in on Parking and Speed

The District Council of Robe is inviting community feedback on proposed seasonal timed parking and speed limit changes in Victoria Street and surrounding areas.
While the concept of timed parking isn’t new to Robe — as shown by Mayor Ruffell pictured outside the Robe Post Office, where timed parking has been in place for several years — the proposal would extend the approach to key parts of the town centre during the busy summer season to help improve turnover and access.
Under the proposal, seasonal timed parking would apply from 1 December to 30 April, between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm, seven days per week, with a maximum two-hour limit.
The change is aimed at improving parking turnover and accessibility during Robe’s busiest visitor months, while maintaining convenience for shoppers, residents, and business operators.
Council is also seeking feedback on a proposal to introduce a 40 km/h speed limit within a portion of Main Road, Victoria Street, Mundy Terrace and Royal Circus.
The reduced limit is intended to improve pedestrian safety and support a calmer, more walkable town centre environment.
Mayor Ruffell said the consultation follows feedback raised at the October Business Meeting with local traders and community representatives. “Parking and traffic flow in the town centre are ongoing challenges during peak visitor periods,” Mayor Ruffell said. “This consultation gives everyone the opportunity to share their views before Council considers any changes.”
Chief Executive Officer Natalie Traeger said the consultation will be conducted through a short online survey. “We want to hear from residents, business owners and visitors about how these proposed changes might work in practice,” Ms Traeger said. “The feedback will guide Council’s final decision, ensuring any measures introduced are practical, balanced and generally community supported.”
The survey is available on Council’s website at www.robe.sa.gov.au and in printed form at the Council Office and Visitor Information Centre.
The consultation period is open until 3 December 2025, after which all feedback will be summarised and presented to Council for consideration.
