Safer Travel on Nora Creina Road – Council Endorses Speed Limit Change

The District Council of Robe has endorsed a change to the speed limit on a section of Nora Creina Road to improve community safety.

Following a review by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT), Council has supported the introduction of a new 60 km/h speed zone extending approximately 360 metres south of Main Road, covering the entrance to Robe Holiday Park. The remainder of Nora Creina Road will remain at 80 km/h in line with DIT’s statewide Speed Limit Guidelines.

Mayor Lisa Ruffell said the change balances local concerns with consistent road safety standards:

“We have listened carefully to the concerns of residents and the Robe Holiday Park, and we are pleased that a lower speed zone will now provide safer conditions at the most critical point of the road. This decision reduces the risk for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles entering and exiting the Holiday Park, while maintaining consistency across the wider road network.”

DIT’s June 2025 review confirmed that there have been no recorded crashes along this section of Nora Creina Road between 2019 and 2023. However, the Department acknowledged that the high volume of holiday traffic and caravan park activity warranted a targeted reduction in speed at the Park’s entry point.

Robe Holiday Park owner Anthony Moore welcomed the change:

“We’ve been advocating for this change for a long time, and we’re really pleased to see it going ahead. A lower speed at the park entrance will make a real difference to the safety of our guests, neighbours and everyone using Nora Creina Road—especially families with kids, walkers and cyclists.”

The new 60 km/h section will be implemented following DIT authorisation, with signage to be installed in the coming months. Council will also continue vegetation trimming and shoulder maintenance works along Nora Creina Road to support safe travel.

Council thanks the Robe Holiday Park owners and the community for raising their concerns and working constructively with Council and DIT to improve local road safety.
