4WD'ing in and around Robe
The Robe region offers an array of 4WD tracks for the adventure enthusiast.
Please note that if you are intending to travel on the sand tracks along this coastline, particularly through the winter months, you should be aware of the following:
- Tracks often are changed by the rough seas and gale force winds.
- The beaches are very soft, tides and seas can be very high. It is recommended that you obtain a Tide Time Chart (obtain from the Council Office or Visitor Information Centre)
- Make sure you have appropriate recovery gear.
- Let the pressure down in your tyres (recommended PSI is 15)
- Stay on the marked tracks on the maps provided.
- If you become bogged it is very difficult to find someone to come and pull you out. It is therefore safer to travel with at least one other vehicle.
- Phone coverage is often poor so you need to climb to the nearest high point to phone for help.
- Take the appropriate action to ensure your visit along our coastline is an enjoyable one. It is a beautiful area and the trip should be a memorable experience for all the right reasons.

Please note that dogs are not permitted within the Conservation parks between Robe and Beachport. This restriction has been put in place by the National Parks and Wildlife Service SA to reduce the risks to wildlife, other park visitors and your beloved pooch. Be aware that poison bates (which are fatal to dogs) are used in the conservation parks to control foxes.
The track from Robe to Beachport takes you along the stunning coastline through idyllic Little Dip Conservation Park and Beachport Conservation Park.
Public 4WD access between the section from Nora Creina By-Pass Track to Beachport Conservation Park is via the beach only (when conditions permit, mainly in the Summer months). Inland tracks in this area are on private land and must not be accessed without land owner consent. Trespassing penalties apply. Please be aware that in the Winter months king tides can steal the beach, therefore during this time, it is best to use the inland tracks/roads between Nora Creina and Beachport, via Bog Lane and Southern Ports Hwy.
The tough 4WD terrain doesn’t hold back, but will also provide you with photo opportunities at every turn!
Close to Robe, Little Dip Conservation Park offers some great drives and it’s a haven for 4WD enthusiasts! Vehicles can access the conservation park via the inland track. However, when it comes to the coastal track, leave it for the seasoned beach driver or book a tour.
Whilst you’re in the park, why not stay and enjoy a picnic lunch, adventure along the walking trails or stop, have a break and take in the relaxing views.
Keep your eyes peeled through here, the wildlife love Little Dip just as much as us so don’t be surprised if your drive is interrupted by wombats, wallabies, echidnas and kangaroos. In Spring you’ll spot the namely ‘Little Dip Spider Orchids’ native to Little Dip Conservation Park.
