Power Reliability in Robe – Community Briefing Update

Residents joined representatives from SA Power Networks and Council at a public community briefing on 28 January 2026 to talk frankly about power reliability in Robe, why outages occur, and what is being done to improve the network.
SA Power Networks explained that Robe is supplied by a single 110-kilometre radial power line, which means faults caused by coastal corrosion, lightning, animals or extreme weather can result in extended outages while crews locate and repair issues. They acknowledged that reliability in Robe has historically been below target and outlined both recent improvements and longer-term options.
Recent investment includes around $3 million in upgrades between Snuggery and Robe, such as lightning-resistant insulators, possum guards and works to improve restoration times. Looking ahead, SA Power Networks confirmed that further feeder rebuilds are planned in 2026, and that new technologies, including community batteries, will help manage peak demand and support future growth – while noting these batteries will not run the whole town during a major outage.
The session also highlighted the importance of community engagement in shaping future investment decisions, particularly for larger long-term options that require regulatory approval and strong local support.
Council thanks SA Power Networks for attending Robe in person, answering questions openly, and committing to ongoing engagement with the community. A detailed summary of the information presented at the meeting is available on Council’s website.
