Robe Reflections: A Creative Writing & Art Competition Now Open for Submissions
The Robe Library are excited to announce the launch of Robe Reflections: A Creative Writing & Art Event. They are seeking talented writers and artists within our community to participate in this unique collaborative project, which pairs local writers with artists to create original works inspired by the theme of Robe.
This innovative concept, proposed by long-standing Friends of the Robe Library member Rosemary Williams, invites local writers to submit a piece of writing. Each selected writer will be paired with a local artist who will create a visual interpretation of the written work. The resulting collaborations will be featured in a published book and celebrated at a culminating exhibition.
Robe Reflections is a collaborative effort between the District Council of Robe’s Public Library and the Friends of the Robe Library. The project is made possible through the support of the District Council of Robe and a grant received from the Libraries Innovation Board.
We invite all Robe residents and ratepayers, regardless of age or background, to participate in this grassroots initiative. Writers are encouraged to submit their themed pieces by the end of September. Following the selection process, artists will be assigned to the chosen stories by ballot, with artwork submissions due in early December. The published book is anticipated to arrive mid-March, with the exhibition launch scheduled for Friday, 21 March 2025.
Both the Robe Library and Friends of the Robe Library are eager to explore the Robe Reflections theme and are excited to see the diverse perspectives and stories that emerge from our community. This event not only seeks to uncover and nurture local writing talent but also aims to strengthen the artistic connections within Robe by bringing together the literary and visual arts.
The Robe Library remains committed to fostering community connections through creativity, offering a welcoming space for all. By linking the established art sector with the emerging literary talent in our community, we aim to inspire and cultivate a new wave of creative expression.
We know there are many budding writers among us, and we look forward to discovering the stories they have to tell.
