Three community groups will receive funding boosts for a range of projects, including security, lighting, and a SA Rural Women’s Gathering event in Robe, through the District Council of Robe’s Community Assistance Fund.

Whist Council’s Community Assistance Fund grant program has $10,000 available this year, only three eligible applications were received, resulting in Council only allocating 60% of this amount to the local community groups.

Mayor Lisa Ruffell said “community organisations are the lifeblood of our region, with a diverse range of needs across all groups”. “By offering funding support, we hope to encourage continued growth and invigoration to these vitally important community groups”.

The Robe Netball Club will benefit with lighting upgrades which will maintain a safe environment to train and play netball at night which is critical for both players and officials.

To make the club more sustainable, the lighting upgrade will provide an opportunity to generate revenue through the introduction of a mixed netball competition to be played at night during the off-season.

Mayor Ruffell, in supporting this project stated, “not only will this project bring about improved and safer playing conditions, but it will also offer increased physical, social and economic benefits which is important for regional and remote communities such as ours”.

With numbers of visitors on in the rise during the busy Christmas and New Year period, the Robe Sports & Recreation Association have been able to fund property protection, through on-site professional security services to prevent campers from entering the complex and ensuring their grounds and buildings are not damaged.

The final project to get the green light was the SA Rural Women’s Gathering Robe Committee, which offers South Australian women with a rural background an opportunity to create formal and informal networks with Robe as the hosting venue.

This gathering aims to develop skills and knowledge through participation and experience with other women, quality guest speakers and workshop presenters, as well as tour local facilities.

This kind of regional event not only supports those who can attend, but raises the profile of Robe, increase awareness of the skills and opportunities available in our town and district and encourages repeat visits by those attending and through word of mouth.

With forty percent of the Community Assistance Fund still available, community groups in the District Council of Robe who have worthy projects or events that could benefit from Council support are encouraged consider accessing the funding pool over the coming months.
