Robe's Town Entrance Statement has Officially been Opened

The District Council of Robe’s Town Entrance Statement was officially opened on Tuesday, 8 June 2021.

Those in attendance included Federal Member for Barker Mr Tony Pasin MP, Mayor Alison Nunan, CEO James Holyman, Councillors, Mayors and CEO’s from the Limestone Coast and invited community members.

The construction of the Town Entrance Statement comes after Council were advised of a lack of signage and wayfinding within the District Council of Robe area.

“It’s terrific to see this project come to fruition as a Town Entrance Sign is something the community have long been asking for. It was a pleasure to be part of the community workshop which formed the design concepts for this project and thank you to the Federal Government funding which made the construction of this project possible” said Mayor Nunan.

Federal Member for Barker, Tony Pasin said he was pleased the Federal Government was able to deliver funding of $150,000 via the Local Road and Community Infrastructure Program towards this council led project.

“It’s fantastic to see the completion of the new Town Entrance Statement for the local community and visitors to enjoy.” Mr Pasin said.

“We know how important these developments and upgrades are for our communities. Getting shovels in the ground on local construction projects is important for maintaining jobs and economic growth.” Mr Pasin said.

The project design includes representations of wild coastal gardens, the rugged coastline and the seven reefs that create the Limestone Coast.

The ‘O’ focal point is symbolic of the beach, the vegetation along the dunes, the wood from the old wharf to represent the fishing and marine environment, the red & whites of the iconic Obelisk and the internal aqua blue ring representing the spectacular Guichen Bay.

A total of five design concepts were created in collaboration with a community workshop and ASPECT Studios, all of which were presented for community consultation.

Council endorsed the design concept chosen by the community for construction. Chief Executive Officer, James Holyman said “it was a fantastic response to receive such a high number of surveys completed, showing the high level of community interest in this project”.

Owner of Tradition Rebuilt Stonemasonry, Jose Paim de Bruges, whose team completed the project were commended for their passion, involvement and understanding in the thought process behind the design.

Local business, Southern Ground Nursery, selected and supplied the indigenous plant species included in the design of the project.

Construction of the Entrance Statement project was funded by $150,000 of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program stimulus provided by the Federal Government.
